This is our second post in a series of interviews with members of the Kentico community. We're starting with Kentico Community Leaders and MVPs, but we plan to include Kentico employees, partners, and customers in the future.

This time we chat with another one of 2025's Kentico Community Leaders - Milan Lund.

We prepared a series of questions for Milan to get to know him, his background in the DXP world, and how he was introduced to Kentico,

Where do you work and what's your current job title?

I run a freelance web development business, helping clients worldwide build and maintain their websites. My primary role is full-stack web developer, but I often take on responsibilities beyond coding. Depending on the project's needs, I also act as a solution architect, consultant, or even contribute to a design process.

What's your background in the digital marketing, DX, DXP, CMS world?

I started in front-end development but expanded into back-end to deliver complete solutions and understand the bigger picture. Working independently or in small teams, I’ve also developed skills in related areas like UX, graphic design, email marketing, SEO, automation, and performance optimization.

In recent years, my focus has been on two types of projects: Kentico, from Portal Engine to the latest DXP on .NET, and Kontent.ai, a headless CMS integrated with Node.js, primarily using Next.js.

How were you introduced to Kentico?

At the very start of my career—my first job was actually at Kentico itself. I began in QA, quickly moved into web design and development, and later became a web development lead, working on public-facing sites. That experience was invaluable, and I continue to build on it as a freelancer today.

What's something valuable you can share that people might not know about Xperience by Kentico?

The Hybrid Headless approach. Kentico products have always been web-centric and built on .NET, but with Xperience by Kentico, content now resides in the Content Hub and can be distributed across multiple channels.

In addition to the Website channel, which follows Kentico's familiar approach, there's also a Headless channel that allows content to be delivered to decoupled projects using various technologies via GraphQL API. This offers the benefits of a fully integrated DXP while providing the flexibility of a headless, API-first architecture.

What interests you most about Xperience by Kentico?

The confident decision to phase out Kentico's long-established product line and introduce a new one—Xperience by Kentico. It's built with a strong focus on customer and user feedback, yet remains selective about what gets integrated, ensuring the product brings maximum value and stays future-proof.

What would you like to see more of in the Kentico community?

I’d love to see more people from all roles who work with the product daily sharing their knowledge and experiences. Over the years, I’ve seen Kentico partners build innovative solutions, but these solutions are often created by people who rarely stand out or share their approaches. It would be great for others to learn from and be inspired by their work.

When you're done with work how do you relax and spend your free time?

I’d say I’m never truly done with work—there’s always something new to solve or research. However, I can’t be tied to work and technology all the time. With a family of two kids, I spend most of my free time with them, enjoying outdoor activities like skateboarding or spending time with our dog. When I do have time for myself, I like to unwind in the sauna or indulge in some gaming.
