Media file field type item ordering
I know the intended plan is to move away from the Media Library eventually but are there any plans to include manual sorting of Media items which ares selected on a Media file field type in the Content Editors?
To this end is there also a means to sort these items according to that order when querying them?

I assume the Media File Selector just keeps the order of the items selected within the Media library, similar to what the Page/Content Item Selector did previously. Worth testing that, and if it is the case then adding explanation text to the field on the widget/content type to inform the marketer that this is the current situation.
If you think Media File Selector should have ordering like the Page/Content Item Selectors, then I recommend submitting as an idea to the roadmap.
Like you've already stated, the ideal situation would be to use Content Hub for storing your assets, and then using the Content Item selector, which already allows for ordering.
